What is caliper? This refers to the diameter of the tree trunk, commonly referenced in landscape plans or municipal requirements. However, it's not very descriptive to the average joe, right? We think of caliper as roughly the following size:

2" (12-14' tall minimum)

2.5" (14-16' minimum, thicker, fuller branching)

3" (16-18' minimum, even bigger canopy than the others)

3.5"+ (18' and over, with a fuller tree canopy as the size increases)

Top dressing a freshly planted tree can aid in moisture retention and weed prevention, not to mention it just looks more complete. Select an option here and our team will bring enough pine straw or hardwood mulch to fully top dress the planting location, giving the installation a fresh, finished look.

Our Take

We love the Weeping Willow for its beautiful, arching growth habit and its ability to thrive in damp, soggy soil to even standing water! Bright green leaves emerge in the spring quickly and remain until turning a golden yellow in the fall before dropping for winter. Fast growing!

Sun Exposure Requirements

Weeping Willow trees prefer full sun, but they can tolerate partial shade. They are hardy in USDA zones 3-8.

Rate of Growth

Weeping Willow trees grow rapidly, reaching heights of 40-50 feet and widths of 30-40 feet in just a few decades. They typically grow 3 feet per year in height and 2 feet per year in width.

Why Plant an Allee Elm Tree?

There are many reasons why someone might want to plant a Weeping Willow tree. Here are a few of the most common reasons:

  • Fast growth: Weeping Willows grow quickly, which means you can enjoy their beauty in your yard sooner rather than later.
  • Attractive foliage: Weeping Willows have thin bright green foliage that turns a brilliant yellow in the fall.
  • Wet Site-Friendly: Trees can be planting in nearly any kind of soil and are great for soaking up water in wet locations.
  • Specimen tree: Weeping Willow trees can be used as a specimen tree in a large yard or as a focal point in a smaller yard.
  • Shade tree: Weeping Willow trees provide ample shade, making them a great choice for patios, decks, and other outdoor spaces.

If you are looking for a beautiful, fast-growing tree with a variety of benefits, then a Weeping Willow tree is a great option for your yard.
